Profitable Agriculture,
is it possible?
" Learn how adding goats helped save our small
farm. Join countless other farms who are
becoming sustainable ”
Given the finite supply of natural resources at any
specific cost and location, agriculture that is
inefficient or damaging to needed resources may
eventually exhaust the available resources or the
reduce the farmer's ability to afford and
acquire
them..

For Small Farm Survival,

Diversify with Goats!

Very few people talk about it. You can be as green,
and as sustainable as you want to be but if  there
is no profit, there will soon be no farm.

Most people concerned with sustainability try to
avoid all negative environmental  impacts without
regard to the fact that yields maybe less than their
conventional counterparts and there will not be
enough profit to sustain the family's needs as well
as meet the farm expenses. The current
sustainable farming methods maybe insufficient to
provide for a profitable farm industry and a growing
global population. No profit, no farm.

We suggest taking a local approach to creating a
sustainable agricultural system -- one that is
ecologically sound, economically viable, socially
just and humane and
profitable. Not all are
methods are practical or  economically feasible in
today's economy. In practice, there is no single
approach to sustainable agriculture. Precise goals
and methods used must be adapted to an
individual's farm, budget and location.

Heat, humidity and drought in the south east means the
livestock that works best for my farm must be a moderate
frame size for feed efficiency. Droughts, hay shortage, high
feed costs require that our animals excel in feed efficiency,
parasite resistance and raise a calf or kid with less input.
This type of livestock  keeps what profit the cows and goats
generate on the farm rather than give it to the feed stores.

We raise full blood, purebred and percentage Boer goats for
sale on our farm.  Most are the traditional color with a few
reds, paints and spotted Boer goats thrown in for diversity.
We have for sale: Boer goats for 4-H and FFA projects, brush
control, Boer brood stock, show quality animals, high
percentage Boer meat goats and forage fed cattle.

Forage fed from birth to production or to harvest. Our Boer
goats and Angus cross cattle eat only the most succulent
grasses, browse and forbes that nature can provide
producing a meat that is low in fat and low in cholesterol.
Goat meat is an great alternative to red meats and is an
excellent food choice for anyone following a calorie or
cholesterol -controlled diet.

We strive to produce beef that is an exceptionally lean and
flavorful meat with carcass dressed weight well in excess of
60 percent of live weight. Our fast growing Boer goats reach
market weights on or soon after weaning.

These thrifty, medium-sized animals more than earn their way
in any beef or goat herd, producing a premium product with
less input. Rotational grazing, over seeding and planting
annual forages help reduce our expenses and increase profit.

We have added free range chickens and home raised pork.
Planted Blueberries, peach and new apple tree varieties to
complement the established apple and pear trees. Hoop
houses this fall are next. Just the beginning for our green
adventures
